Maj. Gen. Stefan Dimitrov, PhD (Ret.)

Gen. Dimitrov has graduated from the Military University "Vasil Levski", Veliko Tarnovo (1965); Defence and Staff College "Georgi S. Rakovski" (1975), Sofia, Bulgaria; Military Academy of the General Staff, Moscow. He holds a PhD degree from Defence and Staff College "Georgi S. Rakovski". In 1994 he has studied French language in the French Cultural Institute in Sofia. Specializations in USA and France.
He was Commander of a tank platoon and company in the Army. He was a lecturer at the Defence and Staff College "Georgi S. Rakovski". Gen. Dimitrov held high positions (1991-1992 - Deputy Head) in the Operative Department of the General Staff of the Bulgarian Armed Forces. He was Head of the Military Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria (1992-1997). In 1992 he was promoted to the rank Major General. From 1997 to 2000 he was Defence Attaché in Moscow (1999-2000 he was President of the Moscow Association of the Military Attaches). He was Executive Director of the Balkan Political Club (2002-2005) and the Consul - Minister Plenipotentiary in Novosibirsk (2005-2006). He is Senior Military and Policy expert.
Scientific and publishing activities:
He is author of more than 70 scientific publications, as well as,
a number of articles in the press, connected with the topics of defense and security of the country.
At the end of 1991 he was in charge of the team who elaborated "The Concept on the reform of the Bulgarian Army in the period 1992-2000". He has taken part in the development of other significant military scientific and applicable works such as "The Automated Army Command System" (1985), "Concept on the National Security of R. Bulgaria" (1991), etc.
International activities:
He was participant in the delegations of the President of Republic
of Bulgaria (1992-1997), including the official Bulgarian delegation at the forums of OCCE in 1994 and 1996. He was participant in the delegation of OCCE in Georgia and Southern Osetia. He participated in the elaboration of the materials for the negotiations and talks of the Head of the State. He has been in the charge of delegations meeting NATO’s representatives and that of other organizations. In NGO he visited Abkhazia and South Caucasus.
He has been decorated with "Order of merit" of France, Greece, Spain and Portugal as well as "Order for faithful service under the flags" - I-st rank.
He has a good working knowledge of Russian, uses French, as well as, some English.
