During his active duty service, Maj. Gen. Sabev has been involved in the development of the operational capabilities of the Bulgarian Armed
Forces and its organizational structures. He has headed key staff structures of air regiment, division and corps, within Air Force HQ and General Staff of the Bulgarian Armed Forces. He has been heavily involved in the elaboration of strategic reviews, analysis and plans, strategic and doctrinal guiding documents, planning and participation of Bulgarian military contingents in NATO PfP exercises and peacekeeping operations. He has headed a working group which worked out the first Bulgarian Force Structure Review and Force Modernization Plan. As a first National Military Representative to NATO HQ, he has build up and integrated the Bulgarian military representation into NATO Military Committee activities.
Currently, Maj. Gen. Sabev is a senior expert and researcher in
the Defence and Staff College "Georgi S. Rakovski". His research interests are in several areas: NATO and EU Security Concepts, Strategies and Doctrines; National Military Strategies and Doctrines; National and Alliance Defence and Force
Transformation. He is also a lecturer in New Bulgarian University, Sofia, on NATO and ESDP civilian and military structures and their working mechanisms. He has participated in a number of conferences, contributing with reports and presentations.
